How To Select A Tutor

By Sadiq Ansari These days, there are a multitude of tutors ready and willing to help your child grow academically and as a person. There are also a good number of unqualified tutors who will do little more than waste your time and take your money. So how do you find a good tutor? One mistake many parents make is assuming that a smart tutor is automatically a good one. I have met hundreds of people who have been very bright, but just wouldn't be good tutors. Tutoring is about more than "being smart" - a good tutor knows how to communicate and help a child learn to think for him/herself. Whenever I meet with a parent for the first time, 9 times out of 10 they will say that they used to have a tutor who basically ended up doing their kids' homework for them. This is the most common pitfall among modern tutors. They don't get the big picture - that being that it's important to teach the child how to think for him/herself. So, all that being said, how does that help you, the parent, in selecting a tutor? Make sure you talk to a tutor before hiring him/her, and find out the tutor's philosophy. Tutoring agencies are often the best place to find tutors because they are usually run by former tutors who train their tutors exactly what to do when helping your kids. If hiring an agency, talk to the head of the agency to find out of the agency's philosophy is in fact one that would help your kid. Make sure you are not hiring a "homework helper." Tutors are there to help your child learn to think for him/herself. Sadiq Ansari holds a B.S. in Computer Science from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and expects to earn a J.D. Real Estate Marketing Strategies: Do You Find It Easy or Difficult to "Toot Your Own Horn?"

By Maya Bailey, Ph.D. One of the biggest concerns I hear from my clients, almost on a daily basis, is How can I market myself without being pushy? or How can I be assertive without being aggressive? A clients story: One of my clients, Shelley, came to the session bewildered. I didnt know approaching people and giving out my cards was going to be so difficult. Im afraid Im imposing on people and they wont like me. As we explored further she began to remember that whenever her mother was assertive, she was judged by her father and terrible arguments would ensue. To protect herself, she decided she would be safe by not asking for what she wanted. That worked beautifully in her previous job, she explained, because she was a waitress and all she had to do was act charming and serve people. I like serving people and I like putting them at ease. I just feel anxious about approaching people and trying to sell them on my service. Reframing marketing yourself: Shelley was making the mistake that a lot of entrepreneurs make which is to feel like they are sales people trying to manipulate a client into buying something. When I point out to my clients that it isnt their job to sell, they start to wonder what to do. Your job, I explain, is to approach a prospective client with the attitude of giving, not taking. Ask yourself how you approach a prospective client? Do you get anxious, thinking I have to make the sale or do you approach with the attitude of Wow, this person can really use my service, and I want to give them the gift of offering to help them. Whether youre a real estate agent helping others to buy and sell homes or whether youre a coach helping your clients to live their dreams, in either case, you are giving of yourself. Shelleys story had a happy ending: Once Shelley understood that her job is to give, not take, she started to give herself permission to be assertive. She released the old belief that it wasnt safe to be assertive and realized her safety now depends on her success and her success depends on being able to toot her own horn. She concluded the session that theres nothing to be nervous about. All you need to do is realize that what you have to offer is valuable and being willing to communicate that in a consistent way. Questions to ask yourself: Am I convinced that what I offer is valuable? Am I willing to communicate that on a consistent level? What is my Unique selling point? How can I be assertive without being aggressive? ( It depends on whether you see yourself giving or taking) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With her 30 years of psychological expertise, Dr. Maya Bailey specializes in helping Real Estate Professionals who want more clients, more free time, and a better lifestyle to create confidence, a positive mindset, and a step-by-step blueprint for success. Holistic Approach to Health

By Michael McCright Holistic or Holism is an approach that emphasizes the whole being, the entire structure, but looks at how each part affects the whole. It deals with life situations with the whole being in mind, while treating the individual parts that are affected and not treating just symptoms. Your problem is not like a car that gets a flat tire and you replace the tire. It is more like a shopping cart that has a bad wheel, which affects and vibrates the entire cart. Holistic medicine attempts to treat all the systems of the being: the mind, the body, the emotions, and the spirit. The holistic approach brings balance and harmony to the entire structure by paying attention to the specific parts and systems of the body. The symptoms are analyzed to identify the existing problem/s that are affecting the parts and then treated with the whole-being in mind rather than treating only the parts that exhibit the symptoms. The Holistic Approach deals with all of the life force energy available, which includes the physical and the energetic aspects. The human body as a whole is made up of many parts, each of which is dependent upon the other for a balanced functioning of the system as a whole. Each system is interdependent upon the other. Its called looking at the bigger picture. Something we do that affects the whole is that we absorb, digest, and inhale toxins every day. These toxins develop free radicals (oxidation, which is rust in the body). Unless we offset the free radicals with anti-oxidants, our bodies will rust from the inside out. As we mature, our body continually changes; remove one critical molecule, or let one cancer cell become a rogue, and the entire structure changes. From a Holistic stand-point the balance that everyone is looking for comes from: A good diet, plenty of rest, re-learning how to breath effectively, drinking good water every day, learning how to handle stress, having a good exercise program and learning how to turn your life over to a Higher Power. Promotional Mugs Drink the Possibilities

By Gareth Parkin If you are looking for a product to promote your business, consider promotional mugs. There is an endless possibility, with many different styles and designs to choose from. Mugs can bring in new customers, and help you keep your current ones. Promotional mugs are a great way to reward your customers. It says I appreciate and value you. There are many ways to give the mugs away, depending on what or who you are trying to attract, and why. If you sell a product, and would like to sell more, you can give away a promotional mug as an incentive. You can give the mug away with every five products purchased, or after a certain amount of money is spent. Depending on the product you sell, you can even use the mug as a carrier to give away free products. You can also put more promotional items in the mugs, like pens or key rings. You can use promotional mugs as a gift for a referral. This is a great way to bring in new customers. Referral gifts are very popular, and effective. It is likely to be successful if you offer a practical gift. Everybody needs to drink something, and for the very few that do not; they can use the mug to hold something else. If your business offers a valuable service, you can give away a promotional mug as a welcome gift, to say thank you for joining our corporation. This is your way of saying you understand what a big decision they have just made, and you are happy they chose you. Every time your customer uses the mug, they are reminded of that. This works well if you are a business with many competitors. If your business offers many diverse products, a promotional mug can help you advertise it. For example, if your business sells flowers, and mens ties, you can give away the mugs to either buyer informing them of your products. If your company sells travel packages, you can give away a picnic basket with a promotional mug inside, advertising a hiking adventure with the purchase of a tropical vacation. A bank that offers many products can give away a promotional mug with information about loan services to a banking customer. Sometimes a person just needs a visual reminder that these services exist. Promotional mugs can also be used for charitable causes. You can create a gift bag with useful products for those in need, and include a promotional mug. They will be happy to receive the gift, and become aware of your business. Even if you do not sell the types of products that can be given away, you can create the gift bags with generic items from wholesale, and include a gift certificate, or discount coupon for your business inside the promotional mug. The possibilities are almost limitless. You can use your promotional mug as a gift that is valuable, practical, and thoughtful. The mugs can be used as the gift themselves, or part of a larger gift package. The bottom line is they are of great value to your business, and to the customer. Use your imagination. Nobody knows what your business needs more than you do. Use a promotional mug to help you achieve that. Gareth Parkin is the co-founder of Ideasbynet.com, the UK's leading online promotional mugs and printed mugs supplier based in the north of England. Ideasbynet was established in 2001 and together with the Chairman Peter Howarth he has taken the UK promotional gift market by storm by applying modern business thinking and the latest search engine marketing techniques to what was previously a sleepy industry. Penny Stock Thoughts

By Rob Rens According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission warning, Investors in penny stocks should be prepared for the possibility that they may lose their whole investment." Its probably justified. Theres no doubt that true penny stocks are among the surest ways to lose all your money in the stock market. But, that being the case, why do so many investors love penny stocks? If you type penny stocks" into Google it spits out more than 8.5-million hits. If you do the same for blue-chip stocks" you get about half that number and if you type in dividend-paying stocks" you get about half that again. The folks at Fool.com reckon its because the world of pennies is inhabited by hardworking average Joes hoping to strike it rich, pumpers and dumpers, hypesters and scammers. In pennies, the logic and reason that applies in the rest of daily life is replaced by zeal and prayer. But there may be another reason. And that is that the rest of the stock market can be so utterly boring. Lets face it, unless youve got huge amounts of money on the line, how excited can you get when one of your blue chips has a really big day and moves up 1.5%? A penny stock can easily double in price in a matter of days. What are the chances of an Anglo [Nasdaq:AAUK] or a Billiton [NYSE:BHP] doing that in a couple of years? And, while it must be said that buying some penny stocks may be more akin to picking up a lotto ticket on the way home from work than making a rational investment decision, thats not to say that you shouldnt go looking for big returns from a penny stock with a reasonable amount of cash, no debt and a CEO - or better still, a CEO/founder - who has a substantial ownership in the business. Yes, they are the exception. And, yes, of course, they are hard to find. But the point is this: provided youre willing to put in the effort and you understand that this is a high-risk area that certainly isnt going to suit everyone - in other words, that you fully understand what youre getting into - you shouldnt let anyone dissuade you from buying a penny stock simply because it is a penny stock. The thing to remember is not to take a chance on something you dont understand.
