What's for Dinner?

By Tony Buel At this very moment millions of people are asking themselves this question: "What's for dinner?" Maybe you are hearing yourself asking this very question yourself. If you didn't plan ahead you might be thinking of just going to a fast food place for a bite to eat. "No, that's not very nutritious. Besides we just did that yesterday." Maybe a nice sit down restaurant is what you're thinking would be good option. "Should we dress up?" How about getting food delivered to your home. "Now where's that phone number?" Maybe you're feeling a bit adventurous and will just head out to the nearest drive thru to have a teenager hand you a bag. "No, not today." Now what? You're hungry. You may want these types of spur of the moment 'what's for dinner' decisions to be the exception and not the rule. These types of meals are just plain less nutritious, more expensive, and more time consuming than if you had prepared the meal at home. Expenses as you know can be astronomical at the end of the year if you do this a few times a week. So what's the answer for a short on time, health conscious, cost conscious person? If you're short on time a crockpot might me your answer. If you're looking for a more well balanced meal, a crockpot might be your answer. If you're looking to save money, a crockpot might be your answer. You may be asking, "How can a slow cooker save me time in making dinner, that's counter-intuitive isn't it?" The answer is "Yes" it is counter-intuitive and "Yes" it will save you time in your dinner preparations. Many are re-discovering this fact. Crockpots are the right answer for many occasions and many meals. Let it do all the work for you while you're away. Simply put in the ingredients the recipe calls for and make sure to turn it on. Then go take your kids to school, drive yourself into the city for your job, do your errands or whatever. If in the past you always seemed to be short on time, you will see that most of the work involved in making dinner has just been completed. And it's still morning! Now it's the slow cooker's turn to do its work. And creating a meal will get easier and easier as you learn which recipes you and your family really like and have all the necessary ingredients handy. There are recipes out there where all that is called for is four, maybe five ingredients. How much easier can it get? One other thing you'll notice is this: Buying the top of the line meats is quite unnecessary. You see the crockpot will tenderize your meats for you just by the nature of the slow cooking process. Very easy on the pocketbook for what will end up being deliciously tenderized cuts of meat. One final benefit. When you come home from a full hard day of doing all the things that needed to be done, you will be greeted by an aroma-filled home and a dinner that's fit for a king and queen! So next time don't wait until dinner time to ask the question, 'What's for dinner?'. With a little pre-planning you will only need to spend a few minutes in the morning and you're practically done with dinner. Prove it to yourself! False Imprisonment In The State Of California-It Is More Than You May Think

By Norman Fernandez Most often when people think about false imprisonment, they think about people being falsely arrested by the police. Most people dont know that non-police officers can be liable for false imprisonment under many different circumstances. The purpose of this article is to give a brief synopsis of the civil tort of false imprisonment in the state of California. A basic definition of civil false imprisonment is; a person intentionally holding another person within the bounds of a fixed area, without the consent of the person being held, and without a privilege that would excuse the conduct. For instance, lets say that a man locks a woman in a room without her permission. This would be a classic case of civil false imprisonment. Another example would be a person holding something of value to another person with the intent to make them stay in a certain place, and without the consent of the person whose valuables are being held. Civil false imprisonment could also include one person grabbing onto another person without their consent, and holding them so that they cannot leave. There are many other examples of false imprisonment that I can provide, however, the above examples are meant to give you an idea of what the civil tort of false imprisonment is in the state of California. One key element of the civil tort of false imprisonment is that the person being held must reasonably believe that they cannot leave. Reasonable is a legal term of art used in the legal world. What reasonable basically means is: what would a reasonable prudent person do or believe under similar circumstances. Another key element of the tort of false imprisonment is that the person doing the imprisoning, must not have a privilege to do so. Examples of privileges that would allow a person to hold another person within the bounds of a fixed area are: shopkeepers who are investigating shoplifting at a store; civilians who have witnessed a felony, and place the person who committed a felony under citizens arrests; or police officers who have probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. As with other intentional torts, victims of false imprisonment are entitled to not only compensatory damages, but they may also recover punitive damages. Homeowner's Insurance - Keeping Track Of Your Goods

By Krista Farmer Homeowner's insurance is an invaluable investment for every homeowner. If your house went up in flames and you lost everything, would you be able to recall everything you owned, including the items' values? If you came home from work to find someone burglarized your home, would you be able to account for everything that had been taken or destroyed? While some items are priceless and/or likely have sentimental value, memories unfortunately are not sufficient for filing a homeowner's insurance claim in the wake of a disaster. In times of distress, you shouldn't have to worry about whether your possessions are covered or not. If you purchase homeowner's insurance, it is important to know what your policy covers. Not sure what's in your homeowner's policy? That topic will be covered in a future article. Your homeowner's insurance, ideally, will replace the cost of what you lose in a disaster. More importantly, however, is the fact that you will only be compensated for what you can account for. In other words, fond memories are heartwarming, but they will not reimburse your losses in a catastrophe. But how will I account for everything I lose in such an event? Well, the most accurate way to keep track of your items would be to take an inventory of everything you own. While this is a process that could take months to complete, it is your most worthwhile strategy should you experience misfortune. What do I need to put in this inventory? Put simply. EVERYTHING. The more you can account for in your homeowner's insurance claim, the more likely you will be reimbursed. The list should be as detailed as possible and should include appliances, carpets, jewelry, furniture, linens, antiques, furniture, and the list goes on. To get your money's worth, go from room to room and be sure you are as descriptive and detailed as possible. Include: - a description of the item (including the quantity) - the manufacturer or brand - any model or serial numbers - a description of where or how the item was attained - the date of purchase or age of the item - receipt or other proof of purchase that shows the cost - the current value - the replacement cost - photocopies of appraisals I'll never complete this process! Keep in mind that while this documentation process may be time-consuming, it is certainly easier than remembering everything you own. Don't let this task discourage you. Take photos. Even better, make a night out of it. Grab your video camera and go from room to room to create a visual and verbal description of your items. It might take you an hour to document your entire house. Regardless of how you complete your inventory, remember that your compensation rests on the quality of your documentation. I've made the inventory, now what? It is likely you invested a good amount of time to document your items. Whatever you do, keep that homeowner's insurance inventory safe! If an unfortunate event comes your way, you certainly do not want your hard work to go to waste. Store it in a relative's home, in a lockbox, a safety deposit box or keep it tucked away in your office desk. While memories and keepsakes can rarely be replaced, it's comforting to know your homeowner's insurance will keep you financially secure should you properly document your items. The Only Diet That Works

You avoid the media - including radio, television and newspapers. Have you noticed when you watch, read or listen to the news, it's almost all negative? SPF? What Does It All Mean?

By L. Fournier Spf or sun protection factor, is the amount of increased protection a sunscreen provides. If you are like most people, you will begin burning after 15 minutes without protection. An SPF helps protect against sunburn, and does not "stop" the tanning process completely!!! It's the burning that you want to omit, that is what causes skin damage! it's not the tan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Determine your protected sunning time by multiplying the SPF number by the amount of time it normally takes you to show signs of burning if unprotected. For example: Spf 8: 8 x 15 = 2 hours of increased protection. Spf 15: 15 x 15 = 3 3/4 hours protection. If you burn in 5 minutes (usually very sensitive skin) with an spf 15: 15 x 5 = l h 15 increased protection. Most common sunscreen ingredients are: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and avobenzone (also called parsol 1789) and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. Avobenzone (also called Parsol) is less pore clogging than titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, but some people do experience irritation (rash or little red bumps) from avobenzone. Titanium Dioxide and Zinc oxide are natural products but can be more pore clogging as they sit on the skin's surface and deflect back the UV rays, rather than absorbing into the dead layer of the epidermis. A combination of Avobenzone and titanium dioxide or zinc oxide may be less clogging then td or zinc alone for some people. But in the end they all block the pores to a certain degree because of there texture. Remember the lesser the spf in your cream or lotion the less chances your skin will react!! for example an spf 8 in your cream will give you minimal to no skin irritations or pore clogging!!! So it comes down to choose what works or is best for your skin or what you feel more comfortable with! spf 2 blocks: 50% spf 8 blocks: 86% spf 15 blocks: 92% spf 30 blocks: 96% Spf 8-15: Is sufficient to give your skin ideal protection against the harmful effects of light for normal exposure to the sun like at home, at the office, in the city, day to day errands,. but the more sun you are exposed to (an entire day at the beach, for instance) the higher the SPF should be to give your skin optimal protection. Sunscreen: Is usually a cream or lotion. It is a chemical protective product works by absorbing a minimal amount of the uv rays and filtering them. Many people have allergic reactions to the chemicals in sunscreen seen as a rash... Sunblock: Is usually an opaque cream or paste. Provides a physical block that functions by reflecting rays. sunblocks contain natural minerals. Sunblock protects you by reflecting the uv rays before they penetrate your skin. Makeup with spf in it do not offer enough protection against the sun you are better to skip those entirely and splurge on a good moisturizer with sunscreen or a sunblock. One should never go to bed with sunscreen on your face, not to mention all the chemicals that will sit there causing irritation and blocking your pores. At night your skin heals and renews itself taking in nutrients from the air and your treatment creams. The skin's optimal renewal action takes place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. this is a time to nourish the skin not block the pores...... Please wash off your sunscreens as soon as you can. Again I stress my view on spfs use - apply them when you need them do not abuse there use...... they are meant to be used when you are outside.... When you need protection from the sun especially during summer time, or whenever you are out in the open, for day to day use in the summer while doing errands, in and out of the home/car all day then an SPF 8 to 15 is sufficient... You can apply 30 when you will be outside for a longer period of time. In my opinion high spf lotions are not to be used daily all year round if you are not working outside or if you will be inside most of the day..... If you really feel the need to wear a cream with spf daily stick with the ones that have a low spf... like an spf 8 and use an spf of 30 on areas (spot treat) where you need extra protection such as discolorations spots..... In my opinion if you are inside most of the day you do not need a cream with an spf in it!!! Best protection is to wear a hat whenever possible and stay out of the sun during the peak hours of 10/11 a.m. - 3/4 p.m. Note: If you have pigmentation spots (discoloration) and are worried about them you can spot treat them with an spf 15-30 if you wish!!! instead of putting an high spf all over the face. Did you know that Vitamin C,Shea Butter, Aloe Vera, Carrot Oil and Vitamin E help support the skin's natural defences against uva/uvb! Vitamin E protects the cells against the adverse effect of free radicals, it protects skin during sun exposure! Many studies have shown that antioxidants may be a very important strategy for preventing skin cancer.! Aloe Vera was used 1000s of years ago as an essential protection against the rays of the sun.! If you will be spending time out in the sun please always apply a sun block/sunscreen over your serums or creams containg vitamin A or C.!!!!!!!!!! My tips for this summer!! - First time you go out in the sun, go for no longer then 30 minutes - fairer skin less time and find a shade place you can go too after the initial 30 minutes then increase gradually through the summer always protecting the skin! - Go out between the times of 9-11 am and after 3-4 p.m. - Prepare the skin properly and treat the skin after being out in the sun! To prepare the skin properly apply your moisturiser under your sunscreen or sunblock, the layers help to protect the skin! After your time in the sun wash off your sunscreen or sunblock and apply a moisturiser or product designed for after sun!! Behavioral and Situational Job Interviews

By Michael Russell A behavioral interview is a style of interviewing wherein the job applicant is asked to give examples of situations he has personally been involved in where he demonstrated a particular trait or skill that the interviewer is interested in. A situational interview is a style wherein theoretical or hypothetical situations are given by the interviewer to assess the applicant's behavior in such a situation. The main difference between behavioral and situational interview is that behavioral interviews focus on past experiences and behavior of the applicant, while situational interviews concentrate on how the applicant will react when confronted with a given situation. These two styles of interviewing are often used in conjunction with each other. These styles of interviewing job applicants are tailored to specific competencies required for specific job positions, thus specific situations must also be given as examples by the applicant. Vagueness must be avoided. The examples may be ordinary events in his life and not necessarily from previous work experience. These styles can be used to interview both experienced applicants and recent graduates. For either style, the interviewer needs to identify the required competencies for the job he wants to fill. He must then examine actual situations related to the job where these competencies (or lack thereof) played a critical part in its success (or failure). A set of questions can be developed and framed in such a way that canned responses may be avoided. A rating scale is also prepared after the job is analyzed and the competencies are identified. For the interviewee, behavioral and situational interviews require him to be well-prepared with specific examples of situations drawn from his past experiences that demonstrate his various competencies. He can examine and make a list of his assets and desirable qualities. He can also look at the job description for the position he will be interviewed for and try to come up with a list of competencies that may be needed for the job. For both of these lists, he can think of situations wherein he had an active role. He should think of problems he encountered in those situations and the steps he took to resolve those problems. He should practice telling his "stories", which should be concise and to the point. The story should come out naturally and the applicant should be prepared for the interviewer to interrupt him at certain intervals to ask probing questions. Some common competencies interviewers look for in job applicants are skills in decision making, problem solving, communicating, negotiating, leading, working with a team and planning. He may also be asked questions related to working under pressure and, especially if he is applying for a sales position, persuasiveness. For any kind of interview, the applicant should do some research on the company he is applying to. The company website may have information that may be useful to know. If possible, the applicant should also get some information on who will be interviewing him. Most importantly, it is wise for the applicant to prepare for the different styles of interviews aside from behavioral and situational interview.
